An entire Gotham episode mostly about the show’s oddball, ever-changing B characters? Okay. Why the hell not?
The most striking thing about “Stop Hitting Yourself,” aside from Grundy’s new finishing maneuver that involved ripping much smaller men’s arms off and beating them to death with it, was the fact that the biggest story elements, concerning the show’s main seasonal arc, happened off in side stories. Jim became captain of “Gotham Central” (having given himself permission to take over for Harvey when Harvey became bitter and antagonistic due to booze and shame) while Penguin started to get wise to Sofia Falcone’s tricks (all because of the lessons he was teaching a little silent psycho orphan named Martin).
